“I knew high school was going to be tough, but I wanted to make it tougher. While the majority of students were not up to the challenge, I decided that taking the AP track would help me reach my academic goals and better prepare me for the next level of my education. Although the courses were demanding, the quality of education was second to none in the MISD. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn from a great group of individuals who truly care about the growth and future of their students. I feel that the Memorial AP program played an enormous role in my success and my ability to have a well-balanced high school experience. The AP program gives students the academic rigor they desire and need, as well as the flexibility that allows them to become involved with many other activities, clubs, and organizations in and out of Memorial High School.”

“All I have to say about Memorial's AP program is that it is amazing. I feel that the AP coursework that I did in high school more than prepared me for college classes. I went into college with 32 hours from AP exams alone [51 college hours total]. I have developed study habits that have allowed me to feel comfortable with the demands of college level classes while many other students around me are struggling to adjust. I am so glad that I went into the AP program and I would not have gone through high school any other way.”

“The Memorial AP program exposed me to the material introductory college courses cover. Without taking any AP courses, it would have been difficult for me to adjust and keep up with the pace of college courses. Most importantly, the AP program helped to give me a strong foundation for course material that will be covered in more depth in college.”

“Memorial’s AP program proved to be very beneficial for me when I entered college. I have knocked out many classes in college and am classified as a sophomore although I am a freshman. Besides getting ahead, the instructors of the AP program prepared me fully for college. The work in the AP program rivals that of colleges so it was very easy for me to advance to college work. Overall, the AP program was a great experience and I encourage students to enroll in it!”

“. . . I have noticed how my AP classes, of any subject, helped me think and evaluate in a more effective way. College requires a different level of thinking and I was able to do well in my classes, not being surprised by what the professors expected of me. I had already done it, practiced it, and perfected it. I was ahead of the game; the experience of AP has proved invaluable and I would do it again. . . I am so grateful knowing my school district values its students and the AP program enough to pay for the tests simply because they want kids like me to have the advantage. They gave me the best foundation for college I could imagine and I’m going to run with it.”

“The AP program fully prepared me for an Ivy League education. The intensity of AP courses in high school provided me with a solid foundation for the workload I found in my college classes. Also, the schedule the AP program allowed me has helped me find and maintain a balance between class work and extracurricular activities; this is an important skill to have if a person wants to take advantage of all that college offers.”

“. . . Any program can have stringent requirements and demanding coursework; those are a given. Very few programs, however, can have what Memorial’s AP program did: a great group of teachers and friends. Memorial’s AP program always had a purpose The College Board never could have predicted: to convey a love for learning. Through the AP program and my pre-AP and AP teachers, I learned how to learn, and how to love learning. These are the two greatest tools I could have procured out of my academic career, and right now, they are the things helping me most in college. In short . . . I would not be where I am, nor able to survive being where I am, if it were not for my AP teachers and my AP program in high school.”
