Student Success:
Students can earn college credit while in high school. It is possible for a student to earn enough credit to enter college at the sophomore or junior level.
Memorial Students on average earn 22+ college hours. (Saving parents and students thousands of dollars in tuition costs.)
It is possible for a MHS student to earn 45+ hours through the program.
All major Texas universities accept AP; over 3,400 universities across the United States recognize AP credits.

Flexibility:
The Pre-AP/AP schedule correlates well with extra-curricular activities.
Students may select to take Pre-AP/AP level courses in core and elective areas.
Students may take Pre-AP/AP courses in combination with College Prep courses at Memorial.
Because students are not required to take the exact same courses as other AP students, they have the flexibility to meet their own needs and goals.
AP students enrolled in an AP course have their exam fees paid by the district.

High Standards:
AP was established in 1955 by College Board ; AP as a cooperative educational endeavor between secondary schools, colleges and universities—including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
AP is considered a standard for academic excellence by most American colleges and universities.
AP course and instructor standards are set and maintained by College Board, which also develops the PSAT and SAT exams.
University statistics prove a student who takes AP courses is more likely to receive an undergraduate degree in 4 years.
Memorial High School Pre-AP/AP teachers have all received training by College Board and work together on vertical teams to maintain the rigor and high standards of the Pre-AP/AP classes.

Student Recognition:
Depending on the number of exams a student takes, a student may receive the following awards: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honors, AP Scholar with Distinction, AP State Scholar, and National AP Scholar.
In September 2007, Memorial had 27 AP Scholars, including 2 National AP Scholars.
In September 2008, Memorial had 28 AP Scholars.
Memorial AP graduates have also received admittance into Honors and specialized programs, and have been allowed to enter upper level college courses as freshmen in college.
